I’ll admit it, okay? I first heard “Hate On Me” on Glee. It was the 7th episode of Season 1, and when she sang this number, Amber Riley absolutely wailed. I immediately knew I needed to hear her performance as many times as possible, which is why I bought the first season soundtrack. Imagine my delight when I realized the CD included an extended version of the track, which allowed Riley to assay the lines, “If I gave you peaches out of my own garden, and I made you a peach pie, would you slap me out?” (Emphasis hers. Enthusiasm mine.)
