The bright red hair, the brighter green eyes, the perpetual use of monochromatic backgrounds: Y’all, Cathy Dennis was it. And by “it”, “ I mean my personal vision of awesomeness in 1991.
If you’ve listened to my pop music podcast, then perhaps you know about my love affair with “Touch Me (All Night Long)”, Dennis’ #2 hit from this period. I loved that song so much that I told my politely tolerant parents it was my favorite of all time. I loved it so much that I wore out the cassette single and had to re-buy it. I loved it so much that one summer day, I opened the window to my bedroom, turned my boom box so the speakers faced the street, and played it for all the world to hear. I genuinely wanted everyone to experience the glory.
But even though “Touch Me (All Night Long)” became my favorite Cathy Dennis tune, it wasn’t the one that made me love her music. That journey began with “Just Another Dream.”
