“Right Here, Right Now,” the first big hit for Jesus Jones, is a sunny alt-rock tune about the incredible possibility of the early 90s. Singer Mike Edwards speaks with awe about the way the world is changing in the blink of an eye, and he says he’s thrilled to be alive and witnessing it. I remember the magic of that time myself: The Berlin Wall fell down, the Soviet Union collapsed, Madonna made the “Like a Prayer” video… anything was possible. Even though the band’s other top 10 hit, “Real Real Real,” wondered if people who spoke about love really knew what they were talking about, they still came across as an optimistic outfit.

But then came “The Devil You Know,” the lead single from their next album.
