I loved this song in high school. Can't believe it didn't chart higher on the pop chart. OKC radio in the 80s played a lot of R&B songs that my wife never heard living in South Dakota & Wisconsin.
Until corporations like iHeart started buying hundreds of radio stations and basically running them all the same way, there were so many more regional hits like this. I yearn for that time!
Oh I'm SO glad you shared the SNL clip. This was a hit in NYC too - in fact, the morning drive time folks used to do a bit that was intro'ed using this song - it was a cue for the women on the show to talk about ladies issues or something. Anyway, this song always brings me back. Excellent!
Watching the video before reading the post, I was planning to just post “Don’t slap me, ‘cause I’m not in the mood.” Glad you called that out.
Impressed that the video had credits.
That SNL sketch was incredible, but I wonder how it played for anyone who hadn't just watched the original 5 minutes before. I kind of hope it was a 12:50AM sketch, because at least people are expecting pure weirdness at that hour.
Do you thing the intro originally had her explaining "BB?" Was Basic Bitch a thing in 1985? I'm very surprised Basic goes back that far.

Eric, great point! I'll bet it *was* BB in the original version!
